Wang, Angela

Growing up in a city that has over 2,000 years history and abundant ancient art resources and spirits, love for history and art is in Angela’s blood. Experiences of living in two quite different countries, China and America, provides her with a unique perspective for exploration in her artwork. What is more, working in a famous Asian art museum offers her endless opportunities to study and appreciate the diversity of human creativity from different cultures, all these expand her artistic horizons, discover new techniques, and find fresh perspectives to incorporate into her own paintings.

Her recent series Bronze Age was inspired by a fabulous special exhibition in Smithsonian NMAA about ancient Chinese bronze which are known for their intricate craftsmanship and cultural significance. By creating paintings inspired by these artifacts, Angela was not only showcasing Chinese bronze’s beauty but also bringing attention to their historical and artistic value. Combining specific details with abstract stokes, these approaches infused her own artistic interpretation and emotion and created a unique narrative that connects the past and present. This blend of personal and historical elements can resonate deeply with viewers, inviting them to explore the intersection of culture, identity, and artistic expression.
